The National Labour Commission has directed GhATSEA to suspend its industrial action
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has stated its position on the intended industrial action by the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA).
In a statement issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on January 15, 2026, it was disclosed that the directive from the NLC followed a meeting between the Commission, the GCAA, and GhATSEA.
According to the statement, the NLC ruled that GhATSEA lacks the legal capacity to embark on industrial action because the association is not registered as a recognised union mandated to negotiate salary adjustments and related matters.

The Commission, therefore, directed members of GhATSEA to return to work with immediate effect.
“The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) can confirm that the National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) to immediately call off its intended strike action, declaring it illegal under Ghana’s labour laws.
“The directive was issued at a meeting held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, involving the NLC, the GCAA, and GhATSEA. At the meeting, the Commission ruled that GhATSEA lacks the legal capacity to declare or institute a strike, as it is an association and not a registered union recognised to negotiate or undertake industrial action,” the statement noted.
The NLC further stated that GhATSEA, which lacks the legal mandate to negotiate or enforce industrial action, should pursue its grievances through the management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
“The NLC directed individual members who feel adversely affected to channel their grievances through the procedures outlined in the applicable Collective Agreement.
“It added that once the issues are properly brought to the attention of GCAA management, they should be addressed expeditiously. The Authority remains committed to human capacity development and the promotion of staff welfare,” the statement concluded.
