Uganda Airlines to start operations in Ghana from October 27

Uganda Airlines will commence direct flight operations between Entebbe and Accra from Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the two countries seek to strengthen air connectivity and facilitate travel across the African continent.

A delegation from Uganda National Airlines Company Limited, led by Manager for Government Relations and Routes Coordination, Deo Nyanzi, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to formally announce the airline’s entry into the Ghanaian market.

The new route is expected to provide another direct air link between Ghana and Uganda, potentially giving travellers, businesses and other economic actors an additional option for movement between West and East Africa.

The development comes amid efforts to improve intra-African connectivity, which remains important for trade, investment, tourism and business activity across the continent.

What it means

The launch of the Entebbe-Accra route will give passengers travelling between Ghana and Uganda a direct flight option, reducing reliance on connecting flights through other African or international aviation hubs.

For businesses, improved direct connectivity could make it easier for executives, traders and investors to travel between the two markets, particularly as commercial ties and intra-African trade continue to expand.

The route could also support tourism and other service-sector activities by making travel between the two countries more accessible.

Speaking during the meeting, Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe welcomed the development, stressing the need for stronger air links among African countries.

He said improved connectivity should enable people to travel safely, easily, comfortably, conveniently and cheaply.

Why it matters

Air connectivity is a key component of regional economic integration because the movement of people often supports the movement of goods, capital, expertise and services.

For Ghana, the entry of another international carrier also expands the range of airlines serving the country and could provide additional options for passengers travelling to East Africa.

For Uganda, the Accra route provides a direct link to one of West Africa’s major aviation and commercial markets, potentially supporting business and tourism flows between the two regions.

The development also comes as African countries continue to pursue deeper economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), where efficient transport links are important to enabling businesses to access markets across the continent.

Uganda Airlines’ planned operations therefore add another connection between West and East Africa, with the potential to support greater movement of people and commercial activity between the two regions.
