The race for the 2026 Literacy Challenge title has entered another crucial stage, with the Top 100 contestants converging in Accra for an aptitude test to determine who will secure a place among the final 30.

The contestants sat for the test at the British Council on Sunday, August 16, 2026, after travelling from various parts of the country to take part in the assessment.

Designed to test the students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities, the aptitude test presented another demanding challenge in their journey through the competition. For some contestants, it was an intense experience; for others, it offered an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how far they had come.

For parents and guardians, the assessment represented more than another examination. It marked a significant milestone in their children’s journey from the initial stages of the competition to the coveted Top 100.

Some parents recounted their excitement upon learning that their wards had qualified, as well as the sacrifices involved in travelling to Accra to support them.

The results of the aptitude test will determine the 30 contestants who will progress to the final stage of the competition.

This year’s final stage introduces a regional representation format, with the 30 finalists selected to ensure that contestants from across the country have an opportunity to compete. Three top contestants from each of the 16 regions will form teams for the live competition.

According to the Head of Programmes Production at Channel One TV and Citi FM, Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, the regional format is a new addition designed to promote broader and fairer representation.

She said the structure would give contestants from different parts of Ghana a stronger presence at the final stage while adding a regional dimension to the competition.

The successful finalists will battle it out in a live competition, with the ultimate winner set to receive a GH¢10,000 cash prize and a trophy.

The 2026 Literacy Challenge is organised by Channel One TV in partnership with Citi FM and sponsored by Deli, Tema Oil Refinery, SIC Insurance, Prospectus Ghana and Advocate Publishing.
