A 14-year-old boy (identity undisclosed) has died after drowning while attempting to retrieve his shoes inside a canal located behind Millennium Park in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, highlighting the police force’s achievements.

Iniedu noted that the incident occurred on Saturday during rainfall.

According to the FPRO, the body of the boy was recovered and rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

He stated, “Police received a report that a 14-year-old boy drowned in a canal behind Millennium Park while attempting to retrieve his shoe during rainfall.

“His body was recovered and rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”

Iniedu noted that the father of the deceased boy declined an autopsy, adding that the police had commenced an investigation into the incident.

“The father declined an autopsy and requested the release of the corpse for burial, which was granted. CID Abuja is investigating,” he concluded.

PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday that an 18-year-old boy, Abdullahi Aminu, drowned after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, had confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
