Kenyans have been urged to brace for moderate to heavy rains in various parts of the country for the next five days, from Sunday, September 13 to Thursday, September 17, 2026.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA), the rains will mainly occur in the Coast, Western Kenya, parts of the Rift Valley and Central Kenya, including Nairobi.
The forecast published on Friday, September 11, indicates that rains will mostly occur in the afternoon, with some areas also expected to receive morning showers.
Along the Coast, Mombasa is expected to receive light showers every morning throughout the five days, while afternoon conditions will be sunny, except on Tuesday.

Kwale, Lamu, Kilifi and Taita Taeta will similarly experience periods of rainfall, with light showers forecast on Sunday morning, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.
In Northern Kenya, Garissa, Mandera and Marsabit are expected to receive light afternoon showers on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Wajir also experiencing light afternoon showers on Sunday and Tuesday.
Kenya Met also listed several parts of Central Kenya, including Kimabu, Nairobi, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyeri and Murang’a, to receive rains from Sunday this week to Wednesday.
Similarly, rainfall will extend to Nyandarua, which will receive afternoon showers on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, while Kirinyaga is expected to receive light rains on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Western and Rift Valley counties will also experience rainfall, with West Pokot expected to receive light afternoon showers on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.
At the same time, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet are forecast to receive light afternoon showers on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with moderate showers expected on Monday.
In Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria basin counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori, rains will occur on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
Temperature Advisory
In its weekend forecast, Kenya Met also warned of cold weather in several counties, with Nyandarua recording the lowest night temperature at 6°C on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Samburu is also expected to experience particularly cold nights, with night temperatures falling to 6°C on Sunday before rising to 10°C on Monday and Tuesday and 11°C on Wednesday and Thursday.
Machakos will have night temperatures ranging from 10°C to 13°C, while Embu could record a low of 10°C on Monday. Kitui’s minimum temperatures will range between 12°C and 15°C.
Other counties expected to experience chilly nights include Meru, where night temperatures will drop from 15°C to as low as 11°C on Thursday, and Murang’a, where temperatures will range between 11°C and 13°C.
Kiambu will record minimum night temperatures of 11°C to 13°C, while Nairobi will range between 12°C and 15°C.
