A Ghanaian repatriated from South Africa has died shortly after arriving at the Accra International Airport.

The deceased was among 50 Ghanaian nationals brought back to the country on an Air Tanzania flight that landed at the airport at about 5:50 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the passenger suffered a health emergency shortly before the aircraft arrived in Accra.

According to the Ministry, the passenger’s condition worsened approximately 30 minutes before landing, prompting medical personnel at the airport to prepare for an emergency response.

The airport’s medical team attended to the passenger immediately after the aircraft touched down and made efforts to stabilise the individual.

Those efforts, however, were unsuccessful. The Ministry said medical doctors later confirmed the passenger’s death at 6:55 p.m.

In a statement, the Ministry said arrangements were being made to formally notify the deceased’s family.

The remains have since been transferred to the Police Hospital, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.

The Ministry said it would release further details on the circumstances surrounding the death after engaging with the bereaved family.

The deceased was among Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa under a government-organised repatriation exercise. The Ministry did not disclose the identity of the deceased or provide details about the circumstances that led to the evacuation.
