The third edition of the Ghana International Horticulture Expo will be held from Thursday, September 3 to Saturday, September 5, at the Palms Convention Center to promote Ghana’s horticultural potential and accelerate the growth of non-traditional exports.
The three-day expo, organised by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) in partnership with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and other stakeholders, is themed “From Soil to Sovereignty: Building Ghana’s Agricultural Self-reliance.”
The event is expected to bring together farmers, exporters, processors, investors, financial institutions, policymakers, researchers, technology firms, logistics operators, students and international buyers to create business and market opportunities across the agricultural value chain.
Speaking at a press soirée in Accra on Friday, August 14, FAGE President Davies Narh Korboe said the expo would go beyond showcasing agricultural products to create practical opportunities for trade, investment and value addition.
“Our objective is simple: to connect Ghana’s agricultural potential to real opportunities. We want the farmer to meet the buyer, the processor to meet the producer, the entrepreneur to meet the investor, technology to meet agriculture, research to respond to industry and Ghanaian products to reach new markets,” Mr Korboe said.
The expo is also intended to support Ghana’s target of increasing non-traditional export revenue to $10 billion by 2030 under the Accelerated Export Development Programme.
According to the organisers, Ghana’s non-traditional export revenue increased from $3.83 billion in 2024 to more than $5 billion in 2025, representing significant growth in the sector.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, said the expo is important to the authority’s mandate of expanding and diversifying Ghana’s non-traditional exports.
“Horticulture sits at the very heart of that mandate. Our fruits, vegetables and ornamental produce are no longer simply commodities for domestic consumption. They are products of immense quality on shelves and in markets across Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and increasingly within our home continent under the African Continental Free Trade Area,” he said.
Expo to serve as national export convention
The organisers said the horticulture expo has evolved beyond a sector-specific event and is being positioned as a broader convention for Ghana’s non-traditional export sector.
The exhibition will showcase fresh produce, roots, herbs and spices, nuts, fish, beverages, cosmetics, processed foods, textiles, packaging, arts and crafts and other Ghanaian products.
Financial institutions will also participate to showcase export finance, production finance and other financial services available to businesses in the sector.
The expo will also provide a platform for businesses to connect with international buyers and investors while addressing challenges relating to standards, logistics, market access, packaging and financing.
Focus on youth and women
The third day of the expo will have a special focus on women, youth and students, with the organisers working with student associations and professional student bodies to encourage young people to consider agribusiness as a viable career and investment opportunity.
Students are expected to receive mentorship and practical exposure to agribusiness, while women entrepreneurs will have opportunities to showcase their businesses and products.
Other activities will include a women’s marketplace, product tasting, a farmers’ event, networking sessions, innovation showcases and opportunities for businesses to connect with investors.
The organisers are also expected to showcase innovations such as smart farming, irrigation technologies, backyard farming and other agritech solutions.
Thousands expected to attend
The expo will be graced by President John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State and is expected to attract between 5,000 and 7,500 physical participants, with about 500 businesses expected to be profiled for growth opportunities.
The organisers are also targeting more than 300 structured business-to-business meetings involving exporters, buyers, investors and other stakeholders.
International buyers, corporate executives, small and medium-sized enterprises, women entrepreneurs, students, media organisations, government representatives and the general public are among those expected to participate.
A post-expo monitoring system will be established to track business and investment opportunities generated during the event over a 90-day period.
