Organisers of the Ghana International Horticulture Expo 2026 have stated that the country’s horticultural sector has the potential to become a major driver of job creation and investment.
The Ghana International Horticulture Expo 2026, organised by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) in collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and Ghana EXIM Bank, will start from Thursday, September 3 to Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the La Palm Royal Beach in Accra.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, the organisers said the Expo, which will serve as a platform to connect horticultural production with investment and innovation with markets, will feature President John Mahama as special guest of honour.
It said the event, which is more than an agricultural exhibition, is expected to serve Ghanaian enterprises with global opportunities while positioning horticulture as a strategic sector capable of transforming the country’s economic fortunes.
According to the organisers, the country already has the natural resources, climate and human capital required to become a significant player in the global horticulture industry, as Non-Traditional Exports generated approximately US$5.006 billion in 2025, with products reaching 152 countries, demonstrating the immense potential within the export sector.
The organisers, however, stated that the next phase of growth must go beyond the cultivation of crops to focus on value addition, industrialisation and market competitiveness.
It said products such as mangoes, pineapples, vegetables, coconuts, roots and tubers represent only the beginning of the opportunities available within the sector, adding that greater value could be created through investments in irrigation, improved planting materials, mechanisation, aggregation, cold-chain systems, grading, certification, processing, packaging, branding, and efficient logistics among others.
The organisers added that the Expo is also expected to bring together farmers, exporters, investors, entrepreneurs, technology companies, financial institutions, policymakers and international buyers to explore opportunities across the horticulture value chain.
The event will also provide a platform for Ghana’s vibrant arts and craft industry to showcase its products while promoting collaboration between agriculture, culture and trade.
“Horticulture is no longer limited to farming but has evolved into a business sector driven by technology, innovation, international trade and wealth creation.
“The sector also presents significant opportunities for employment, particularly among young people. From farmers cultivating hectares of land to workers in processing facilities and entrepreneurs managing export businesses, horticulture has the capacity to create sustainable livelihoods across the country,” parts of the statement read.
It said the theme for the Expo, “From Soil to Sovereignty,” highlights the importance of strengthening Ghana’s economic independence through increased production, value addition and participation in global markets.
The organisers stated that the country must transition from production to processing, branding to international markets, and international markets to wealth creation, as it also urged investors to extend beyond farming to areas such as irrigation systems, greenhouses, cold storage facilities, processing plants, packaging solutions, and logistics.
The organisers also called for the active participation of farmers, exporters, investors, processors, financial institutions, researchers, technology companies, development partners, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and policymakers among others to support the growth of the sector.
“The Ghana International Horticulture Expo 2026 is expected to provide a platform for Ghana to showcase not only what it grows, but also what it can achieve by creating greater value from its agricultural resources,” it added.
