The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Sammy Gyamfi has formally authorised his lawyers to accept service of a writ filed against him by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin over alleged defamatory statements.

The development follows Mr Afenyo-Markin’s announcement in Parliament on August 24, 2026, that he had commenced legal action against Mr Gyamfi in connection with allegations of extortion made against him.

According to a notice filed with the High Court, Mr Gyamfi, through his solicitors, Ayine & Partners, has written to the Registrar of the High Court, General Division, Accra, authorising the law firm to receive the writ of summons and all accompanying court processes on his behalf.

The notice, dated August 26, 2026, is titled “Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor.”

It was signed by Seth Nyaaba, Solicitor for the first defendant, on behalf of Ayine & Partners.

The lawyers said they had received express instructions and authority from Mr Gyamfi to accept service of the writ and other originating processes connected to the case.

They subsequently requested that service be effected through their chambers at East Legon, Accra, and asked the court to update its records accordingly.

Legal battle over alleged defamatory claims

The move clears a procedural hurdle in the developing legal dispute between Mr Afenyo-Markin and Mr Gyamfi.

Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is also Member of Parliament for Effutu, announced that he had sued Mr Gyamfi and other parties over statements he considers defamatory.

The Minority Leader has denied the allegations against him and indicated that he intends to use legal avenues to protect his reputation.

Mr Gyamfi’s decision to authorise his lawyers to receive the writ does not constitute an admission of the allegations contained in the suit.

Rather, it formally communicates his willingness to receive the court processes through his solicitors, allowing the case to proceed through the appropriate legal channels.

The acceptance of service is expected to pave the way for the substantive proceedings once the writ and accompanying processes are duly served.
