Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Simon Madjie, has urged Ghanaian businesses to look beyond the domestic market and position themselves to compete in international markets.
According to him, expanding Ghanaian businesses beyond the country’s borders would create new opportunities for local enterprises while contributing to the growth and prosperity of the Ghanaian economy.
Speaking at the opening of the This Is Ghana Exhibition on Saturday, August 29, Mr Madjie said GIPA’s mandate had evolved beyond attracting foreign investment into Ghana to also promoting investment by Ghanaians and supporting local businesses to explore opportunities abroad.
The new focus, he said presents an opportunity for GIPA to work with Ghanaian businesses to identify and conquer new markets, particularly as local enterprises seek to scale up their operations.
“Part of our mandate is not just to bring investment into Ghana, but also to promote investment within Ghana and to encourage Ghanaians like you to also send your businesses abroad. So working with you, we know we’ll be able to conquer new markets and to make our country as prosperous as we make ourselves prosperous as well,” he added.
Mr Madjie also underscored the importance of creating platforms that bring producers and consumers together, describing such activities as essential to economic growth.
He said sustained economic expansion depends largely on consumption and therefore welcomed initiatives that provide businesses with opportunities to showcase their products directly to consumers.
The GIPA CEO commended Citi FM and Channel One TV for using the exhibition to promote Ghanaian businesses and products, reaffirming the Centre’s support for efforts aimed at strengthening local enterprise and promoting Ghana as a business destination.
