The Black Princesses put up a brilliant display against Mexico but were defeated 2-1 in their final pre-World Cup friendly.

The Mexicans took the lead in the second minute after a defensive howler saw the hosts go in front.

Mexico doubled their lead shortly after, through a goalkeeping error to give the hosts a two-goal advantage.

The Black Princesses pushed to reduce the deficit before half-time, but Sarah Nyarko’s shot at goal was narrowly missed.

After the recess, the Princesses were the better side, creating goalscoring opportunities which paid off in the 55th minute when Diana Amoako reduced the deficit from the penalty spot.

Mexico had a penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Najat Abdul Salam to keep Ghana’s hopes of equalising alive, but Mexico held on to win the tied 2-1.

Despite the defeat, the exercise provides Head Coach Charles Sampson with an opportunity to take away positives going into the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana will open their campaign against Ecuador on September 6, 2026, before taking on Korea Republic and France in the other group fixtures.
