The Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has successfully concluded its maiden Executive Paris Leadership Training Programme and Business Mission, a landmark initiative designed to fortify business leadership, cultivate international partnerships, and deepen economic cooperation between France and Nigeria. Held over a week in Paris, the programme brought together senior executives and industry leaders from critical sectors—fintech, energy, oil and gas, maritime services, hospitality, and enterprise development—to explore strategies for sustainable growth, innovation, and resilience in a rapidly evolving global economy.

A Strategic Partnership for Leadership and Collaboration

Organised in collaboration with Bodik France and certified by Paris Graduate School, the programme was structured to provide executive-level training, strategic networking, and direct engagement with key institutions driving economic collaboration between Europe and Africa. The initiative was themed “Advancing Sustainability Through Innovation: Project Funding, Digital Transformation, and Resilience”, reflecting its focus on equipping Nigerian business leaders with actionable tools to navigate technological disruption, sustainability challenges, financing constraints, and shifting market dynamics.

Key Focus Areas: Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Sustainability

The curriculum was meticulously designed to address three core pillars:
1. Leadership Development and Organizational Transformation
Participants engaged in intensive workshops on executive leadership, strategic decision-making, and adaptive management, ensuring they could lead their organisations through volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) environments.

  1. Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration
A significant emphasis was placed on AI-driven business models, with sessions exploring practical applications across:
  2. Fintech (fraud detection, algorithmic trading, and personalised financial services)
  3. Logistics and Supply Chain Optimization (predictive analytics, route optimisation, and demand forecasting)
  4. Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 (automation, robotics, and smart factories)
  5. Customer Service and Engagement (chatbots, NLP-based support, and personalised marketing)
  6. Energy Management (AI-driven grid optimisation and renewable energy forecasting)
  7. Data Analytics and Business Intelligence (real-time insights, predictive modelling, and competitive intelligence)

Delegates were exposed to case studies from French and multinational corporations, demonstrating how AI is revolutionising operational efficiency, cost reduction, and customer experience.

  1. Sustainability, ESG Compliance, and Future-Proofing Business Models
Sustainability was positioned as a non-negotiable driver of long-term success, with sessions covering:
  2. Global sustainability frameworks (UN Sustainable Development Goals, EU Green Deal, and Paris Agreement commitments)
  3. Climate-conscious business models (circular economy principles, carbon-neutral operations, and green financing)
  4. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, which are increasingly mandatory for investors, regulators, and consumers
  5. Impact investing and green bonds as financing mechanisms for sustainable projects

Participants were encouraged to align their business strategies with ESG principles to enhance investor confidence, access premium financing, and future-proof their operations in an era of stricter environmental regulations.

Financing the Future: Overcoming Capital Constraints

A critical challenge for African businesses remains access to funding, particularly for scaling operations, infrastructure development, and technological upgrades. The programme addressed this through:
– International funding structures (blended finance, public-private partnerships, and impact investment models)
– Investor expectations (due diligence processes, risk mitigation strategies, and bankable project proposals)
– Strategies for developing high-impact projects that attract both traditional and alternative financing (e.g., venture capital, impact funds, and development finance institutions)

Delegates gained practical insights into structuring projects for investor appeal, including financial modelling, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement techniques.

Strategic Networking and Institutional Engagement

Beyond classroom learning, the Nigerian delegation leveraged Paris as a hub for business diplomacy, engaging with key stakeholders to explore investment opportunities and foster long-term collaborations:
– Conseil Français des Investisseurs en Afrique (CIAN) – A leading French private-sector network representing companies investing across Africa. The delegation met with Chairman Étienne Giros, Secretary General Stephen Decam, and CEO Sandrine Sorieul, discussing private-sector investment trends, regulatory frameworks, and joint venture opportunities.
– Business France’s Africa Desk – Provided market entry strategies and government-backed support for Nigerian businesses looking to expand into France and the broader EU market.
– Delegation of the European Union to the OECD – Offered policy insights on EU-Africa trade agreements, digital economy regulations, and sustainable development financing.
– UNESCO and the Nigerian Embassy in France – Facilitated cultural and institutional dialogues to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote knowledge exchange between the two nations.
– Paris Ouest Business Club – A network of French and international executives, providing mentorship and partnership opportunities in emerging sectors like green technology and digital innovation.

Leadership Insights from Global Experts

The programme featured distinguished facilitators:
– Marie-Noële Schwartzmann, a renowned leadership strategist, led discussions on global best practices in executive decision-making and organisational agility.
– Idowu Ajayi, a business transformation expert, guided sessions on digital disruption, innovation ecosystems, and future-proofing business models.

Their interactive workshops encouraged peer learning, case-based problem-solving, and actionable takeaways that delegates could immediately apply to their organisations.

A Strategic Dialogue with CIAN: Unlocking Investment Potential

One of the highlights of the mission was the strategic engagement with CIAN, where Nigerian business leaders presented FNCCI’s mandate under the leadership of Director General Moses Umoru, representing FNCCI President Guillaume Niarfeix.

Key discussions included:
– French investment trends in Nigeria, with $4.7 billion in cumulative investments by the end of 2025, covering energy, infrastructure, agribusiness, and technology.
– Opportunities in high-growth sectors such as renewable energy, fintech, and logistics, where French firms are actively seeking partnerships.
– Regulatory and policy frameworks that facilitate cross-border investments, including tax incentives, ease of doing business reforms, and digital economy policies.

The delegation highlighted Nigeria’s potential as a gateway to West Africa, with strong economic fundamentals, a growing middle class, and a dynamic business ecosystem.

Valuable Insights and Future Collaborations

Participants praised the mission for providing unparalleled access to investors, policymakers, and industry leaders, offering firsthand insights into:
– Emerging investment trends (e.g., green financing, digital infrastructure, and health tech).
– Regulatory developments affecting foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nigeria.
– Potential partnership models (joint ventures, technology transfers, and knowledge-sharing initiatives).

The support of key institutions was also acknowledged, including:
– Agence Française de Développement (AFD) – A major development finance institution funding sustainable projects in Africa.
– Business France – A government-backed agency promoting French-Nigerian business ties.
– Laurent Favier, Consul General of France in Lagos – Whose diplomatic efforts have facilitated commercial cooperation between the two nations.

FNCCI’s Vision for Franco-Nigerian Economic Integration

In a post-mission statement, FNCCI emphasised the programme’s success in merging executive education with business diplomacy, creating new avenues for investment, innovation, and collaboration.

The chamber stressed the importance of:
– International exposure for Nigerian leaders to understand global best practices.
– Strategic networking to build lasting partnerships with French and European firms.
– Leadership development to position Nigerian businesses as competitive players in the global economy.

The Paris mission has laid a strong foundation for deeper Franco-Nigerian economic engagement, with potential to accelerate Nigeria’s diversification agenda by:
– Attracting high-impact foreign investments in green energy, technology, and infrastructure.
– Strengthening trade linkages through bilateral agreements and market access initiatives.
– Promoting knowledge transfer in digital transformation, sustainability, and innovation-driven growth.

As Nigeria continues to position itself as a hub for African economic integration, initiatives like the FNCCI’s Paris Leadership Programme are crucial in bridging the gap between local business ecosystems and global opportunities, ensuring that Nigerian enterprises compete effectively in the 21st-century economy.
