An Italian language school will be opened in Accra before the end of 2026, starting with kindergarten and the early grades of primary school.
“This is a major step forward in promoting our beautiful language in Ghana,” said the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Laura Ranalli at a reception at her official residence in Accra last Thursday (May 28, 2026).
The reception was to mark Italy’s 80th National Day celebration.
Meanwhile, the envoy said in the field of higher education, an increasing number of Italian universities were looking up to Ghanaian universities for partnerships in various fields of study.
The Italian Ambassador pointed out that collaboration between Italy and Ghana also extended to the crucial field of security, with shared commitment to stabilising the region through bilateral, multilateral, and European partnerships.
In that regard, an Italian Navy vessel, ‘Cigala Fulgosi,’ visited the Tema port while on patrol mission in the Gulf of Guinea, early in May, this year, she said.
Shedding more light on Italy-Ghana collaboration, the Italian Ambassador mentioned the Mattei Plan, an agricultural initiative in the Volta Region, which she said was progressing rapidly.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku who was the government’s representative at the reception said Ghana highly appreciated Italy’s commitment to regional peace, and security, especially its cooperation within bilateral, multilateral, and European frameworks aimed at stability in the Gulf of Guinea and the wider West African region.
He said Ghana also welcomed Italy’s the growing engagement in sustainability, circular economy initiatives and environmentally responsible industrial practices.
“As we confront the shared challenges of climate change and economic transformation, partnerships that promote innovation and sustainable growth will be more important than ever,” Mr Opoku added.
He said the flourishing cultural and academic exchanges between the two countries was highly pleasing.
For instance, he said, the upcoming exhibitions, artistic collaboration and university partnerships between Ghana and Italy reinforced the power of culture and education in bringing people together.
Mr Opoku acknowledged the contributions of the vibrant Italian community in Ghana to businesses, development cooperation, culture and social life, which said, continued to enrich the Ghanaian society in various ways.
He paid tribute to the Italian Ambassador, Laura Ranalli for her active dedication and engagements, saying they had given renewed momentum to Ghana- Italy relations.
Among the dignitaries present, were the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV.
