The Church of Pentecost, Axim Area, has constructed and handed over a fully equipped VIP ward to the Axim Government Hospital in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western region, in a move aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the area.
The project, named the ‘Pentecost Ward’, was solely financed by the church at a cost of GH₵193,413.00. It was officially handed over to hospital management on Friday.
The new ward comprises two air-conditioned rooms, each fitted with two ceiling fans, a refrigerator, a television set, and a water heater in the bathroom. The facility also features fully tiled floors, two adjustable beds, two bedside drawers, and two wardrobes, one in each room.
Handing over the facility, the Axim Area Head, Apostle Daniel Mireku Gyamera, urged members of the church and the wider community to translate their faith into practical service.
Drawing from James 2:14–24, Apostle Gyamera distinguished between two types of faith. He described “dead faith” as faith without action—powerless, immobile, and ineffective. In contrast, he said, “living faith” is demonstrated through tangible works that meet the needs of others and impact the community positively.
“This ward stands as a testimony of living faith in action,” he said. “We are called to live out our faith and positively impact our communities.”
Apostle Daniel Mireku Gyamera expressed gratitude for their support and collaboration.
He appealed to them to ensure proper maintenance and care of the facility so it can continue to serve its intended purpose effectively.
He also expressed appreciation to the Area Executive Members, the Pastorate and their wives, Ps. Kingsley Adjei, Area Estate Committee Chairman; Eld. Gordon Tsibuah Archer, Area Deacon; and the entire Area Office Staff for their invaluable contributions and support toward the successful completion of the project.
The Western Regional Health Director, Dr. Marian Okoh-Owusu, expressed profound appreciation to The Church of Pentecost for the gesture.
“To you, it is a donation, but to us, it signifies dignity for both staff and patients of this hospital,” she remarked.
She further urged the Church and the general public to verify health-related information before making it public, in order to uphold confidentiality and professional ethics.
“We value this partnership deeply,” she added.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, Herbert Kuah Dickson, also urged hospital staff to maintain the facility properly and ensure that it is put to good use.
Abusuapayin Christian, representing the Chiefs and Traditional Leaders of Upper and Lower Axim, said he holds the pastors of The Church of Pentecost in high esteem and deeply reveres the Church, though he is a Catholic.
He raised concerns regarding staffing and maintenance of the ward and emphasised that all work carried out should reflect Christian values.
He further prayed for continued brotherly love and unity among all stakeholders.

BACKGROUND
The need for the ward became evident when Apostle Gyamera visited the Axim Government Hospital and observed that the facility lacked adequate amenities to accommodate dignitaries such as traditional leaders, politicians, ministers of state and their spouses, and other prominent personalities whose conditions might require admission.
In response, the Area Head, in consultation with the Area Executive Committee and hospital management, resolved to construct a befitting facility.
On 1st August 2024, Apostle Gyamera, together with ministers and their wives, the Axim Area Office staff, key management members, and staff of the Axim Government Hospital, cut the sod for the commencement of the project. A two-unit ward attached to the Emergency Unit of the hospital was subsequently constructed.
Hospital officials said the new ward would help reduce congestion, improve patient comfort, and generate revenue to support other services within the hospital.
The Church of Pentecost has, in recent years, expanded its social intervention programmes under its “Possessing the Nations” agenda, with projects in education, health, water, and sanitation across the country.
