The Ghana Police Service has arrested members of a notorious and highly dangerous highway robbery gang believed to be responsible for a series of violent robberies, arms theft and a murder across several parts of the country.
The gang first struck on 29 November 2025, when three-armed men wielding a pump-action gun and a pistol attacked the residence of J.A. Biney at Peduase, Aburi.
The assailants made away with several valuables, including iPhones 12 Pro, iPhone 16 Plus, an Infinix Hot 50i, assorted jewellery and an unspecified amount of cash.
Following intelligence-led investigations, personnel of the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID), in collaboration with the Accra Regional PID, arrested Kofi Ishmael, aged 30, on 6 January 2026 at his hideout at Avenor in Accra.
The police in a statement explained that during interrogation, Kofi Ishmael confessed to his role in the Peduase robbery and identified Kwame Bediako, popularly known by several aliases including Star Boy, Nkokopo, Kwame Mike, and Father, as the ringleader of the gang.

He also named other accomplices, including Kwasi Akambuley (Kwasi Fresh), Salia Mohammed (Kwaku Nuah), Mumuni Abdul Razak Akakuub (Mogambo), Aticho Kojo (Kalovi) and Kwame Bonsu (Killer Ntua).
Acting on information provided by Kofi Ishmael, police arrested Kwame Bediako at his hideout at Ablekumah, Agape. A search conducted at the residence uncovered a pump-action gun buried in the fence wall, concealed in a sack together with four BB cartridges.
According to the police, Kwame Bediako admitted his involvement in the Peduase robbery and further mentioned Gideon, a taxi driver, as another accomplice.
Further investigations revealed that the gang was behind several highway robberies targeting Burkinabe, Nigerian, Malian and Ghanaian trailer drivers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch.
Kwame Bediako disclosed that the gang was planning to carry out another robbery on the very day he was arrested.
Suspects Kwame Bediako and Kofi Ishmael later led police to Nkawkaw, Fodoa and Nnadieso in the Eastern Region, where several accomplices Kwasi Akambuley, Salia Mohammed, Mumuni Abdul Razak Akakuub, Aticho Kojo and Kwame Bonsu were arrested while allegedly preparing to engage in another highway robbery.
Other suspects mentioned include Michael Antwi (Yaw Prince), currently on remand at Juaso; Stephen Amoako, on remand at Weija and others identified as Mawugah, JJC, Osei, Baker and Kooko, who are currently at large. Police say efforts are underway to arrest them.
