Sogakope (V/R), May 18, GNA – Mr Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, has distributed rice seedlings to nearly 200 rice farmers in the constituency to support increased food production during the current farming season.
The intervention, aimed at boosting rice cultivation in the district, comes as the rainy season creates favourable conditions for planting.
Mr Lukutor said beneficiary farmers would also receive tractor services at subsidised rates to help prepare new lands for cultivation.
He noted that although farmers experienced a glut during the previous farming season, they remained hopeful that prices for rice currently in stock would improve in the coming months.
According to the MP, the farmers expressed appreciation for the support, particularly the provision of seedlings and his office’s efforts to purchase locally produced rice for official programmes.
Mr Lukutor further disclosed that discussions were underway with farmers to secure a suitable parcel of land for the construction of a National Buffer Stock warehouse to store excess produce in future seasons.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting farmers and residents across the district, stating that the interventions would continue in phases to ensure broader impact.
