Coventry City enter race for Ghana forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku

Newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City have emerged as contenders to sign Ghana international winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old, widely regarded as one of Leicester City’s most valuable assets, is expected to attract significant interest following the club’s relegation to League One.

His potential departure is viewed internally as a key opportunity for Leicester to generate funds and ease financial pressure early in the transfer window.

Coventry’s interest places them in direct competition with several English top-flight and Championship clubs, including Everton and Sunderland, who are also monitoring the situation.

While earlier reports had linked Issahaku with a move to Turkey, Coventry’s improved financial position following their promotion gives them the capacity to move decisively.

Despite the historical rivalry between Coventry and Leicester, both clubs are understood to recognise the mutual benefit of a potential deal, particularly given Leicester’s need to balance their squad and Coventry’s ambition to strengthen for top-flight survival.

Negotiations could also be influenced by Leicester’s relegation, which may force them into accepting a reduced fee compared to Issahaku’s estimated market valuation of around €24 million.

He joined Leicester in July 2024 from Sporting CP in a deal reported to be worth €17 million, and remains under contract until 2029.

For Coventry, the prospect of regular Premier League minutes is seen as a major selling point, with Issahaku’s development a key factor in his next career step.

The winger already has 27 international caps and three goals for Ghana, and is widely expected to be part of the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
