The family of George Ennin, the 53-year-old US-based Ghanaian security guard who was stabbed to death in the Bronx, a borough in New York City, has spoken out following the incident.

Speaking in an interview on US-based News12, they said that they have been left heartbroken and traumatised over the loss of their dear one, who they say has left them so early.

The sister of Ennin, Regina Adusi Brenfa, said she found out on TV that her brother’s life had been taken in a way she could never imagine.

She said that the media report showed that her brother was stabbed in the heart.

“The autopsy shows that he was pierced in his heart. That’s why he couldn’t survive… I’m afraid to come out, maybe they will kill me like my brother,” she said.

Regina said that the last time she heard from her brother was via a WhatsApp voice message, which she will cherish forever.

About the attack:

According to the police, Ennin suffered multiple stab wounds throughout his body and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.

The police have also indicated that George Ennin, a father of two, was stabbed while he was on his way to work.

A CCTV footage of the incident showed the suspect, who has been identified as 38-year-old Sean Jones, crossing the path of the victim and unprovokedly attacking him in front of 3077 Third Ave. in the Mott Haven section around 2 p.m.

As George Ennin tried to run away, he stumbled and fell, which allowed the suspect to pounce on him. The video showed Sean Jones with an object that looked like a knife in his right hand as he attacked Ennin.

After the deed, George Ennin, who was holding his head, could be seen staggering forward, his steps uneven and visibly struggling, as he called for help.

Moments later, a team of paramedics could be seen at the scene giving the victim the needed help and subsequently putting him on a stretcher to transport him to a health facility, where he was pronounced dead.
