Ramaphosa Set To Attend IEC’s Final Election Results Announcement

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to be present when the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) officially announces the final results of the 2026 Local Government Elections on Sunday, November 8.

The announcement is scheduled to take place at 18:00 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, where the electoral body will formally bring the results process to a close.

According to the information released ahead of the event, Ramaphosa will attend in his capacity as President of the Republic and deliver brief remarks during the programme.

His expected presence places the country’s head of state at an important moment in the local electoral process, as political parties and communities await the official confirmation of the outcome of the polls.

The 2026 Local Government Elections have been closely followed across the country, with attention focused on how political parties performed in municipalities and the implications for the administration of local councils.

The IEC’s final announcement is expected to provide the formal conclusion to the counting and results process. It will also mark the transition from the electoral exercise to the next stage, in which political parties and elected representatives turn their attention to the formation and administration of municipal governments.

Ramaphosa’s brief address will form part of the official programme at the results announcement. However, no further details about the content of his remarks have been provided.

The Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand will therefore serve as the venue for the final results event, bringing together the electoral commission and other key participants as South Africa receives the official outcome of its 2026 local government polls.
