Forget Signing Players For Numbers: Da Cruz Reveals Chiefs’ January Transfer Strategy
Da Cruz Reveals Chiefs’ January Transfer Plans As He Identifies Major Squad Concern
Kaizer Chiefs supporters could be in for an interesting January transfer window after head coach Fernando Da Cruz revealed that the club is already considering how to strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.
However, the French tactician has made it clear that Amakhosi will not rush into signing new players simply to satisfy supporters or increase the number of footballers available to the technical team. Instead, the club wants quality additions who can make a meaningful difference.
Speaking ahead of the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against Siwelele FC, Da Cruz explained that Chiefs still have time to assess their performances before making important recruitment decisions.
“There are two months until January, so there is still time and matches to play. We don’t just want to recruit players. We want to add value to the squad, so it is very important to do it right,” Da Cruz said.
His comments suggest that the club’s January strategy will be guided by specific needs rather than simply bringing in several new faces.
More importantly, Da Cruz openly acknowledged that Chiefs lack experience in certain positions. He believes bringing in more experienced footballers could help the club’s younger players improve, both during training sessions and competitive matches.
“We know that we have a lack of experience in certain positions to help and support our young, talented players every day in training to develop and mature,” he added.
This admission is significant because Chiefs have already invested in several players during the current campaign. Their arrivals include Thabo Moloisane, Langelihle Phili, Khanyisa Mayo, Adolf Mtasingwa, Faiz Abrahams, Renaldo Leaner and, most recently, Elias Mokwana.
Despite those additions, Amakhosi have experienced an inconsistent campaign. They have already been eliminated from the MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup, while their position in the Betway Premiership has also come under scrutiny.
The club started the league campaign strongly but subsequently dropped points, leaving them fifth in the standings at the time of the latest report. These results have increased expectations that the squad may need further adjustments.
The arrival of Mokwana is another important development. The Bafana Bafana international joined Chiefs as a free agent after leaving Esperance, but Da Cruz indicated that the winger would need time to regain full fitness and integrate into the team.
The FIFA international break is expected to provide an opportunity for the technical team to work with him before gradually introducing him into competitive action.
For Chiefs supporters, the biggest message from Da Cruz is that January recruitment must address the team’s weaknesses. Experienced players could provide the leadership and consistency needed to support the club’s promising youngsters.
