Investigative Journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s Family Deserves Justice – President Mahama Says

According to a report by The1957News today being Sunday, November 8, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated the need for justice for the family of murdered investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, stressing that those responsible for his death must be held accountable.

Speaking at the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, President Mahama said the family of the late journalist deserves justice after years of waiting for answers and accountability over his killing.

The President’s comments have once again brought attention to the unresolved murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, whose death shocked Ghana’s media landscape and raised serious concerns about the safety of journalists in the country.

Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist associated with the Tiger Eye PI investigative team, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in January 2019. His death attracted widespread condemnation from media organisations, civil society groups and international press freedom advocates, who called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At the awards ceremony, Mahama emphasised the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring that individuals who risk their lives to uncover wrongdoing can perform their duties without fear of intimidation, threats or violence.

He maintained that justice should not be delayed indefinitely, particularly in cases involving attacks on media practitioners. According to the President, the family of Hussein-Suale deserves closure, while the country also needs answers about the circumstances that led to the journalist’s death.

The murder remains one of Ghana’s most prominent unresolved attacks on a journalist, with continued calls for the authorities to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators before the law.

Mahama’s remarks at the 30th GJA Awards have renewed discussions about press freedom, journalist protection and the responsibility of the state to ensure accountability.

The President’s position also serves as a reminder that the fight for justice for Ahmed Hussein-Suale should not be abandoned, as his family continues to deserve answers and accountability.
