George Ruto Expands 98 Sacco Fleet with Eye-Catching Matatu

Passengers may soon see another eye-catching matatu on Nairobi’s roads as George Ruto’s 98 Sacco continues to expand its transport business.

Photos shared online show a new red matatu taking shape at a workshop in Nairobi. The vehicle is still unfinished, but its design already gives an idea of what passengers can expect when it is completed and officially launched.

The unfinished vehicle carries the branding linked to the 98 Sacco transport business. It is also associated with Ninety Eight Logistics, the brand under which George Ruto’s growing fleet operates.

The red colour and visible markings make the vehicle stand out from ordinary public service vehicles.

The images show the matatu without its final interior fittings and finishing touches. However, the bodywork appears to be almost complete. The vehicle is expected to receive more customisation before it is placed on the road, including interior decoration, seats, lighting and entertainment features.

The anticipated addition comes only weeks after the Sacco reportedly introduced several customised matatus in Nairobi. The earlier fleet attracted public attention because of its bright colours, modern appearance and entertainment-focused design.

Customised matatus, commonly known as nganyas, are popular in Kenya, especially among young passengers. Many are fitted with powerful sound systems, colourful lighting, stylish seats and unique artwork.

Operators use these features to attract passengers and create a different travelling experience.

George Ruto’s entry into the matatu industry has also attracted interest because of his family background and the speed at which the business appears to be growing. His 98 Sacco has reportedly been expanding its fleet and seeking a stronger presence on Nairobi routes.

The Sacco’s matatus are expected to serve busy parts of the city, including routes connected to areas such as Embakasi and Roysambu. However, the exact route for the new red vehicle has not yet been officially confirmed.
