Interior CS Murkomen Breaks Silence Over Mackenzie’s Sentence
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has thanked the various agencies that worked alongside legal experts to secure the conviction of controversial cult leader Paul Mackenzie and associates. Speaking during a thanksgiving service held at Bushiangala Church of God in Kakamega County, Murkomen said that this is an incredible achievement in Kenya’s war on religious extremism. He applauded the hard work of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga and the Judiciary.
Stating that the country will never tolerate any manipulation of ideology, he added that they would ensure everyone has the right to worship according to the Constitution. He urged the judiciary and police to continue to push forward and deal with other issues affecting society including drug trafficking, organised crime and political violence. He added that there was an incredible breakthrough in Kwale County recently where the police seized a significant amount of narcotics which were valued at KSh 3.6 billion and arrested foreign nationals.
Murkomen also spoke about local governance. He firmly denied claims that National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) had political bias. He explained that the role of the NGAO is to provide information on developments in the country irrespective of who is in power. The CS confirmed that his Ministry is working with the Ministry of Mining to ensure that the region can benefit from their mineral resources.
Regarding local politics, he urged the opposition to move away from ethnic divisions and urged politicians to be issue-based. He encouraged people to back President William Ruto’s administration. The event was attended by a number of local members of parliament including Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka and Western Regional Commissioner Allan Machari. This detailed update from the Minister highlights that the government has a diverse approach to security, economic empowerment of the region and progressive politics.
