Oil Well Claim: RCCG, Winners’ Chapel, Deeper Life Push Back Against Allegation Involving Obasanjo

According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, November 8, 2026, three of Nigeria’s biggest church organisations have rejected a claim that former President Olusegun Obasanjo handed oil wells to their leaders while in office.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) and the Deeper Christian Life Ministry responded after a sermon began circulating on social media.

In it, the founder and President of the Ministers’ Prayer Network, Rev. Mosy Madugba, alleged that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor William Kumuyi were given oil wells by Obasanjo during his presidency.

Madugba said the well-known pastors in Lagos own oil wells, and pointed to the universities, hospitals and schools they run. He also said all of them except Kumuyi own private jets.

The video has divided opinion online. Some Nigerians have questioned the integrity of the clergymen, while others have asked Madugba to produce evidence.

A senior media aide to Kumuyi, who asked not to be named, dismissed the claim as ridiculous. He said the Deeper Life founder is fully committed to preaching the gospel and winning souls, and has no interest in oil business.

Living Faith’s Director of Media, Patrick Nkamiang, said oil wells are not the personal property of any president to be shared at will. He explained that Nigeria’s petroleum resources are natural assets governed by law.

He added that Oyedepo has a zero-tolerance policy on gifts and donations that cannot be traced to legitimate income. Nkamiang ruled out legal action against Madugba, saying the church would leave the matter to God.

An official in the RCCG media unit, who also asked not to be named, said the church will not respond until Madugba provides evidence for his claims.

When contacted, an official of Madugba’s church, identified as Blessing Madugba, said they would get back to the reporter.

Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, did not answer calls or messages at the time of filing the report.
