27-year-old political thug, Victor Edet Yellow-Duke, who attacked Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate – Peter Obi’s convoy in Calabar has been released on bail and will be charged to court.

Victor Yellow-Duke and other thugs attacked Mr. Peter Obi’s convoy and destroyed his supporters’ vehicles, along the Watt Market Roundabout axis of Calabar, on Wednesday, 4th November 2026.

The incident occurred at about 2:20PM as the candidate’s convoy was returning from the palace of the Obong of Calabar – en route to Metropolitan Hotel, the venue of the party’s presidential town hall meeting.

At the Watt Market Roundabout, Victor and other hoodlums armed with machetes and sticks, emerged from the Calabar Road and Clerks Alley axis and attacked vehicles within the convoy, smashing their windshields and sending supporters and traders scamper for safety.

Police personnel deployed around the area responded swiftly to contain the situation. The intervention, which included the deployment of tear gas, led to the arrest of Victor, while others fled the scene.

He was subsequently moved to the State Police Headquarters by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation and to prevent any possible reprisal or further breakdown of law and order.

And while fielding questions on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during Agba Jalingo Foundation for Investigative and Accountability Journalism (AJFIAJ) engagement held virtually and on-site in Calabar, the Cross River State Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed he has been granted bail and will be charged to court on Monday, 9 November, 2026.

ASP Sunday Eitokpah alongside other stakeholders speaking on the topic: “Elections, No Be Violence: A Multi-Stakeholder Sensitization Workshop for a Peaceful and Participatory Electoral Process in Cross River State,” said he has been interrogated and the matter still under investigation.

He enjoined citizens and party supporters not to resort to violence irrespective of their party differences, assuring that the police in the state will play its part in providing free, fair and credible elections.

Meanwhile, an insider in the Command told CrossRiverWatch that Victor Yellow-Duke confessed he was hired to carry out the attack. CrossRiverWatch is still digging deeper on the confession.
