Counsellor George Lutterodt

Counsellor George Lutterodt has issued a public apology following controversial remarks he made about the burial of late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday, Lutterodt admitted that comments he made urging Ga youth to exhume the musician’s body from his East Legon residence were inappropriate and regrettable.

The counsellor explained that after he was invited by the Ghana Police Service, officers played back a video of the remarks in which he allegedly encouraged young people to carry pickaxes and other tools to remove the late musician’s body. He said he immediately apologised when the police highlighted the sections of the video they considered inciting.

“I acknowledge that some of the statements I made were inappropriate. The police drew my attention to those parts, and I accept that I should not have said them,” he said. “I sincerely apologise to listeners, the Ghana Police Service, and all the security agencies.”

Lutterodt also appealed to the youth not to take any action that could lead to unrest or suggest that his earlier comments should not be acted upon.

“I urge young people not to take any action that could create problems or suggest that my comments influenced such behaviour,” he added.

The controversy followed earlier remarks in which Lutterodt claimed that burying Daddy Lumba at what he described as an unapproved location on Ga land disrespected local traditions and authorities.
