Mohbad’s Paternity Case Advances as DNA Samples Are Collected

The paternity dispute involving the family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has entered another stage following the collection of DNA samples from his remains and his son, Liam. Punch Newspapers reported that the exercise took place on October 31, 2026, under court supervision.

The sample collection followed an application by Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, who requested a court-approved test to establish Liam’s biological relationship with the late singer. The court approved the request and appointed a welfare officer to oversee the procedure.

The issue has remained a subject of legal proceedings since Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, began publicly questioning the child’s paternity and requesting a DNA examination. His efforts had previously encountered delays.

The exercise was conducted with security personnel present to prevent possible disturbances. The late singer’s mother, Abosede, younger brother, Adura, and wife, Omowunmi, were also present during the proceedings.

Samples were obtained from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital in Yaba, Lagos. They were subsequently transported under security escort to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where Liam’s samples were also collected for forensic examination.

The process reportedly included the identification of the late singer’s remains, which was an emotional experience for members of his family.

Following the exercise, Barrister Kabiru, the lawyer representing Omowunmi, said there was no confirmed date for the release of the DNA findings. He explained that the parties involved would receive notification through the court when the results became available.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the court and the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring that the exercise was completed under proper supervision.

The collection of the samples represents an important development in the dispute, which has attracted public attention since Mohbad died in September 2023. However, the outcome of the forensic examination remains unknown, and the results are expected to provide scientific evidence for the court’s consideration.
