Vim Lady Blasts Sam George After Heated Military Confrontation

Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has criticised the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, over his heated confrontation with a military officer during an operation in his constituency.

Vim Lady argued that the minister could have addressed the matter more diplomatically instead of publicly reprimanding the officer and questioning his conduct as a lieutenant.

She cautioned Sam George against making inflammatory public statements when dealing with military personnel, warning that such confrontations could strain relations between civilians and the military.

According to the journalist, the minister should have sought clarification from the officer’s superiors or contacted the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to establish the circumstances surrounding the military operation rather than engaging in a public confrontation.

She also stressed that becoming a military lieutenant requires considerable discipline and training, adding that the minister’s approach to the disagreement was inappropriate.

“He could have called their leader to talk to them about why this operation was carried out without his notice in a diplomatic way, or contacted the CDS about it. And openly, you are abusing the military officer. These are the kinds of attitudes that bring a coup d’Ă©tat when the military is upset,” she said.

Vim Lady further urged the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament to exercise greater self-control and demonstrate restraint when addressing sensitive matters in public.

She noted that concerns had previously been raised about the minister’s temperament and public conduct, urging him to take the latest criticism seriously and work on improving his emotional intelligence.

Her comments follow a recent confrontation between Sam George and a military officer identified as Lieutenant Albert Goh over allegations of misconduct during an operation in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

The minister accused the officer of leading heavily armed soldiers into the constituency, where they allegedly seized several trucks without lawful authorisation.

Sam George likened the alleged actions of the soldiers to armed robbery and expressed concern about reports that residents had been intimidated and mistreated.

He subsequently warned against any further military operations involving the alleged brutalisation of residents and described Lieutenant Goh’s conduct as disgraceful to the Ghana Armed Forces.

The minister also called on the Chief of Defence Staff to investigate the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against the officer.
