Adwoa Animah Claims 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon Slap Was Justified Following Sam George Military Clash
According to reports from Official Facebook Post by Adwoa Animah – 5 November 2026. Social media commentator Adwoa Animah has reignited public debate after claiming that the 2019 assault on Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, was “very justified.”
Animah’s remarks follow a viral video depicting Sam George confronting a military officer in Afienya within the Ningo-Prampram constituency. In the clip, the minister angrily challenged a lieutenant leading a joint task force that confiscated private trucks at a local sand-winning site. George accused the officer of civilian harassment and disrespecting senior police personnel, calling for institutional disciplinary action and the officer’s dismissal.
The heated encounter prompted a high-level meeting between Sam George, the Minister for Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and service commanders. George subsequently clarified that his criticism targeted specific personnel conduct rather than the Ghana Armed Forces as an institution.
However, Animah linked the incident to the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, where George was slapped by a state security operative. That incident led to the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry, which condemned the physical assault, recommended prosecution for the operative involved, but noted that George’s conduct during the confrontation was ill-advised.
Animah’s post has split public opinion. While supporters view George as a bold defender of civilian rights against military overreach, critics question whether public officials should engage in aggressive, direct confrontations with uniformed officers.
The renewed controversy places Sam George’s volatile history with security agencies under intense public scrutiny once again, emphasizing the ongoing tension between political authority, military operations, and civil oversight in Ghana.
