Woman In ‘Labour’ Recorded By Ghanaian Nurse On TikTok NMC To Take Action – Ghanaians React

News broke on Saturday, November 7, 2026, that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is set to summon a nurse over an alleged TikTok livestream showing a pregnant woman in visible distress. Ghanaians have taken to social media to express strong opinions on the matter, with many demanding accountability.

According to a report by MyJoyOnline, the incident came to the attention of the Ministry of Health after a concerned individual raised the alarm online. The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, said the Council is following up and expects the nurse to be invited for further engagement next week.

A Facebook user, Dickson Assan, who reported the matter to the Ghana Health Service, said he came across the TikTok Live session in the early hours of the day. He alleged that the host, who appeared to be a nurse, broadcast the distressed patient while viewers posted inappropriate comments and mockery. He further claimed that a viewer who questioned the broadcast was met with insults, and that the host displayed a Mobile Money number to solicit contributions during the livestream.

Reactions on the JoyNews Facebook page have been largely supportive of the Council’s decision. Many commenters described the move as long overdue and urged the NMC to be firm in enforcing discipline. Several people said the conduct is damaging the image of the health profession and called for more sanity and professionalism among practitioners.

Others expressed shock at the invasion of a patient’s privacy during such a vulnerable moment, questioning why a healthcare worker would broadcast it. A section of commenters also cautioned against painting all health workers with the same brush, stressing that one person’s actions should not tarnish the many dedicated professionals in the field.

A debate also emerged over professional titles, with some insisting the media should distinguish between nurses and midwives. Meanwhile, some users called for severe sanctions, including the permanent removal of the nurse’s licence from the register.

The NMC is yet to announce the outcome of its engagement with the nurse.
