Mahama Announces Afari Military Hospital Resumption and Completion of 35 Agenda 111 Projects

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that work on the Afari Military Hospital will resume next year as part of efforts to complete stalled healthcare infrastructure projects across Ghana.

The President also disclosed that 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 project, which are at least 70 per cent complete, will be re-awarded to contractors to ensure that the facilities are completed and made operational.

Mahama’s announcement signals the government’s intention to address delays affecting major health infrastructure projects and improve access to healthcare services across the country.

The Afari Military Hospital project, located in the Ashanti Region, is one of the major healthcare developments expected to strengthen medical services for military personnel and the wider population.

Its planned resumption next year is expected to bring renewed attention to the project, which has remained incomplete despite the resources committed to its construction.

On the Agenda 111 initiative, the President explained that the government intends to prioritise facilities that have already reached significant levels of completion.

By re-awarding the 35 projects that are at least 70 per cent complete, the government hopes to prevent further delays and ensure that public resources already invested in the hospitals are not wasted.

Agenda 111 was introduced to expand Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure through the construction of hospitals across the country, particularly in districts without adequate hospital facilities.

However, delays in the implementation of the programme have raised concerns about when communities will be able to benefit from the planned hospitals.

The decision to re-award the selected projects is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for contractors to complete the remaining work and bring the facilities closer to becoming operational.

Mahama’s announcement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare delivery system through the completion of existing infrastructure projects rather than allowing unfinished facilities to remain unused.
