FG Approves Five Digital Platforms for N50,000 Emergency Relief Payments to Nigerians
According to a report by The Vanguard on Thursday, November 5, 2026, The Federal Government has authorised five financial technology companies and mobile banking platforms to facilitate the distribution of its N50,000 cash assistance to eligible Nigerians under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
According to information published on the programme’s official website, the approved payment channels are ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo PSB, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. These providers will serve as the financial channels through which successful applicants will receive their grants.
To make it easier for recipients to access their money, the participating platforms have introduced USSD banking options. The designated codes are listed below:
Customers using OPay and Moniepoint can equally access and manage their funds through their respective mobile applications.
The N50,000 grant is primarily targeted at financially disadvantaged Nigerians, particularly low-income individuals and households facing economic hardship. The government says the selection process will rely on authenticated National Identification Number (NIN) records and data obtained from the National Social Register to identify qualified beneficiaries.
People chosen to benefit from the initiative will receive text messages from one of the authorised payment providers. Recipients must reply “YES” to indicate their acceptance before a mobile wallet is established using their registered telephone number and NIN. Once the account has been successfully created, the approved financial assistance will be paid into it.
After receiving the funds, beneficiaries will have several options for accessing their money. They can withdraw cash through recognised Point of Sale (POS) operators or banking institutions. Alternatively, the funds can be used directly for purchases, bill payments and other permitted financial transactions.
The Federal Government has emphasised that the entire process is free of charge. Nigerians selected for the intervention are not expected to pay any registration, activation or processing fees. There is also no requirement to complete another application or travel to any government office to collect the money.
Meanwhile, citizens have been cautioned to remain vigilant against individuals attempting to exploit the programme for fraudulent purposes. Anyone demanding payment in return for beneficiary registration, approval or faster disbursement should be treated with suspicion.
Beneficiaries have also been advised to protect their financial information by keeping their personal identification numbers (PINs), one-time passwords (OTPs) and other banking credentials private. Such details should never be shared with strangers or individuals claiming to represent the government.
The authorities further stated that only the five officially recognised financial platforms would send legitimate messages concerning the intervention. They also noted that the distribution of funds would take place in stages, so not every qualified household may receive its payment at the same time.
The NERSI intervention is part of the Federal Government’s broader humanitarian support strategy, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. The programme is designed to provide immediate financial relief to economically vulnerable households and reduce the pressure created by rising living expenses across the country.
Through the initiative, the government hopes to strengthen support for struggling families by providing direct cash assistance to those who need it most.
