As A Minister, I Listened To BAT Claim That He Made Buhari President, But I Did Not Reply To Him -Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken about his experience in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, while recalling an occasion when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly claimed responsibility for Buhari’s emergence as Nigeria’s president.
Amaechi made the revelation during an interview on News Central TV on Friday, November 6, 2026, where he reflected on his political journey, his relationship with Tinubu and the circumstances surrounding his decision to join the opposition ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the discussion, the former Rivers State governor recalled an incident in which Tinubu allegedly made comments about his contribution to Buhari’s victory in the 2015 presidential election. Amaechi explained that although he was present as a serving minister at the time, he deliberately decided not to engage in an argument over the claim.
“As a minister, I listened to Tinubu claim that he made Buhari president, but I did not reply to him.”
Amaechi’s comment offered an insight into some of the political disagreements and relationships that characterised his years within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor served as Minister of Transportation under Buhari from 2015 to 2022, playing a prominent role in the administration’s transportation and infrastructure policies. His experience during that period, he suggested, formed part of his broader assessment of Nigeria’s political leadership and governance.
Amaechi also explained his decision to align with the ADC, indicating that his political choices were influenced by his concerns about the country’s current direction and the need for a different approach to national development.
According to his position, the consequences of the government’s economic decisions have contributed to the hardship experienced by many Nigerians, making it necessary for political leaders to reconsider the direction of the country’s economic policies.
