Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o Receives Sad News as James Orengo Announces Death of His Father-in-Law

Siaya Governor James Orengo has joined the growing circle of mourners following the death of veteran educationist Mwalimu Laban Buyu, the father of Dorothy Nyong’o, wife of Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

In a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page, Orengo expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Buyu, describing him as a legendary educator whose contribution to society deserves recognition.

The governor’s tribute also highlighted the personal connection between the deceased and Prof. Nyong’o, with Orengo extending his message of sympathy to the family during this difficult period.

Orengo, who shares a longstanding political relationship with the Kisumu governor, used his message to recognise the late Buyu’s contribution to education while acknowledging the pain of losing a loved family member.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing on of Mwalimu Laban Buyu, a legendary educator and the beloved father of Dorothy Nyong’o, wife to my dear comrade Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o,” Orengo wrote.

The Siaya governor further described the death as the loss of a prominent figure in the education sector, using a brief but emotional statement to honour his memory.

“A giant in education has fallen. Rest well, mzee,” he added.

The tribute has brought attention to the family loss facing Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, who serves as the Governor of Kisumu County, following the death of his father-in-law.

Although Orengo did not disclose the circumstances surrounding Buyu’s death, his message conveyed the sadness associated with losing a respected member of the community.

The announcement has also provided an opportunity for those familiar with the Nyong’o family to reflect on the loss and extend their condolences.

As the family mourns, Orengo’s tribute stands out as a recognition of both the personal grief surrounding Buyu’s death and the contribution of an educator he described as a giant in his profession.
