GRA Boss Breaks Silence After IMF Assessment of Ghana’s Revenue Collection in 2026
The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Sarpong, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to boosting domestic revenue mobilisation and accelerating tax administration reforms following the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) positive assessment of Ghana’s revenue performance in 2026.
In a Facebook post on Friday, November 6, Mr Sarpong said the IMF’s assessment recognised the GRA’s contribution to the country’s economic recovery and efforts to maintain fiscal stability.
He indicated that the Authority would intensify efforts to improve revenue collection, enhance services for taxpayers, modernise customs operations and strengthen the technical expertise and leadership capacity of its workforce.
The IMF, in its first review of Ghana’s 36-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), acknowledged the country’s strong revenue performance in 2026 and progress made in implementing key tax administration reforms.
The Fund highlighted the early completion of a review of customs and excise legislation, ongoing digitalisation initiatives through the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) and electronic fiscal devices, as well as the potential for increased non-oil revenue mobilisation in 2027.
It further assessed Ghana’s performance under the PCI as broadly satisfactory, noting that most quantitative targets had been achieved while structural reforms continued to advance.
However, the IMF emphasised the importance of strengthening domestic revenue mobilisation to sustain fiscal stability and improve the country’s resilience against external economic shocks.
Reacting to the assessment, Mr Sarpong acknowledged the contribution of GRA employees to the Authority’s achievements and expressed appreciation to taxpayers for their continued support.
He also reiterated the GRA’s determination to transform into a more efficient, transparent and customer-focused institution capable of supporting Ghana’s economic growth and national development.
