“He Will Cooperate” Ramaphosa Has Breaks Silence On Former Adviser’s Madlanga Commission Notice

Upon getting a formal letter demanding an accounting for his WhatsApp talks with the late taxi businessman Jotham Mswazi Msibi, Bejani Chauke—President Cyril Ramaphosa’s former political adviser—has affirmed that he would assist with the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

As a result of this new information, the commission’s investigation into claims of criminality, corruption, and political interference in South Africa’s criminal justice system has focused on Chauke’s communications with Msibi, whose phone records are supposedly among the pieces of evidence being reviewed.

A Rule 10.6 notice was sent on Chauke, compelling him to clarify his WhatsApp conversations with the late taxi boss. The notification puts his conversations under even more scrutiny as the commission is collecting information from anyone whose contacts might be pertinent to its probe.

Talking about it, Ramaphosa said that his ex-advisor will do as the commission asked and let things play out.

Regarding Dr. Bejani Chauke, he will take the necessary steps to address all of those concerns. Aside from that, that’s all Ramaphosa had to say.

Based on the president’s comments, it seems that Chauke has to interact with the commission and address the concerns mentioned in the official notification.

It is been stated that the WhatsApp messages pertain to exchanges between Msibi and Chauke in 2022 and 2023, when Chauke was Ramaphosa’s political advisor.

The communications allegedly came to light while detectives were going through data taken from Msibi’s phone. The messages’ purported mentions of topics related to the government, security, and the taxi sector have piqued the public’s curiosity.

Msibi, a legendary character in South Africa’s taxi sector, is now central to the commission’s investigation into communications and ties involving powerful people.

Therefore, the investigation is likely to focus on Chauke’s discussions with the deceased businessman in an effort to determine the nature of their connection and the circumstances surrounding their conversations.

Claims of corruption, illegal infiltration, and meddling with law enforcement institutions prompted the formation of the Madlanga Commission. During its proceedings, witnesses and evidence have been presented on alleged connections between criminal organisations, law enforcement authorities, prominent politicians, and others.

But just because you get a formal notification from the commission doesn’t mean you’re guilty. The commission will consider Chauke’s statement and any further information as they investigate the matters.

More and more people are curious in the commission’s investigations and the people whose connections and contacts are under scrutiny, which has prompted Ramaphosa to make recent remarks.

As it strives to uncover the facts underlying the claims before it, the panel is anticipated to keep scrutinising relevant material.
