Jessica Motaung Resigns From Chiefs Executive Role But There’s a Twist

Jessica Motaung steps down from key Kaizer Chiefs position as major career development emerges

Kaizer Chiefs are facing a significant change in their executive structure after long-serving Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung confirmed her decision to step down from her influential position at the Soweto-based football giants.

The development has attracted considerable attention among Amakhosi supporters, considering Motaung’s longstanding involvement in the club’s administration and her contribution to building its commercial identity over the years.

The news initially emerged on Thursday, November 5, when SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe reported that Motaung had confirmed her departure from the executive position. However, she will not be leaving the organisation completely, as she is expected to retain her position as a member of the Kaizer Chiefs board.

In an updated report published on Friday, November 6, SABC Sport journalist Velile Mnyandu provided further details about Motaung’s decision, revealing that she intends to expand her influence beyond club football and explore opportunities on the international sporting stage.

Speaking to SABC Sport during her recent visit to Botswana on African Clubs Association duties, Motaung explained that her decision represents an opportunity to take on bigger responsibilities while continuing to contribute to Amakhosi.

“I call it elevating, I’m elevating myself to the next level while still being able to give my wisdom and give input at the club,” Motaung explained.

She also revealed her excitement about working across different sporting codes, highlighting opportunities she recently explored during engagements with sporting organisations, including discussions with NBA leagues in New York.

Furthermore, Motaung disclosed that she is championing a new organisation known as the United League of Sports (ULS), which aims to operate across different sporting codes.

Her departure from the day-to-day executive position marks the end of an important chapter at Naturena.

Motaung joined Kaizer Chiefs in 1998 and gradually established herself as one of the most influential administrators within the organisation. She was appointed Marketing Manager in 2003 before being promoted to Marketing and Commercial Director in 2007.

Throughout her tenure, she played an important role in strengthening the club’s commercial operations, brand development, sponsorship relationships and partnerships.

Her influence has also extended beyond South African football. She became Deputy Chairperson of the African Clubs Association in 2023 and was appointed to FIFA’s Men’s Football Stakeholders Committee in October 2025, with her four-year term running until 2029.

She has also served on CAF’s structures dealing with women’s football.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have yet to release a comprehensive official statement outlining the administrative arrangements following her departure from the executive position.

For Amakhosi, Motaung’s decision represents a notable transition, although her continued presence on the board means the club will retain the experience and knowledge of one of its longest-serving administrators.

Attention will now turn to how the Soweto giants organise their commercial department and who will eventually assume the responsibilities she leaves behind.
