Ruto’s CS Turns Heads After Landing in Tanzania with His Plane

Few guests at Charlene Ruto’s wedding travelled the way Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua did. He took the controls of a light aircraft himself and flew it to Tanzania.

Social media user Engineer John Macharia, who goes by @engjohnmacharia, posted a photo on November 5, 2026, showing the two men standing in front of the small propeller plane on what looks like a runway.

The aircraft is a Sling TSi, a four-seat, single-engine, low-wing machine powered by a turbocharged Rotax engine. It is built by Sling Aircraft in South Africa and carries that country’s flag emblem.

Mutua’s love of flying goes back a long way. He grew up in Riruta Satellite and dreamed of becoming a pilot for decades, but money troubles and a heavy workload kept pushing the plan aside.

He finally enrolled at 99s Flying School in 2023, trained in Kenya and South Africa, and earned his Private Pilot Licence. He has since flown for more than 300 hours.

The CS often speaks about his aviation journey and presents it as a lesson for young Kenyans, urging them to chase their ambitions however tough the road.

Arriving at one of the year’s most talked-about weddings in a plane he flew himself may be the clearest illustration of that message so far.

Several prominent Kenyans made the trip across the border to celebrate with the First Daughter. Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi was among them and drew attention for his own entrance, pulling up at the venue in a black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon.
