Just in; Mt Kenya Politician Who Got Over 100K Votes in 2022 Ditches Jubilee & Joins Gachagua’s DCP

Veteran media personality Evelyn Waithira Muithirania has officially defected from the Jubilee Party and joined the DCP.

The high profile political shift was announced by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua following a meeting at his Wamunyoro residence on Wednesday morning.

Gachagua confirmed that he welcomed the seasoned broadcaster into the party’s fold as she sets her sights on the Murang’a County Woman Representative seat.

Waithira is seeking to secure the position on a DCP ticket in the upcoming general election. Her entry into the race introduces a significant dynamic to the local political landscape given her established public profile.

During their meeting, the former journalist shared her political aspirations and her strategy for the constituency. She is looking to leverage her media background and previous political experience to secure the legislative seat.

In the last general election, Waithira demonstrated considerable grassroots support by running for the same position.

She finished a strong second, having garnered more than one hundred thousand votes in a highly competitive race.

The DCP leader noted that he has assured the new entrant that the party’s upcoming nominations will be conducted in a free and fair manner.

He encouraged her to immediately begin engaging with voters, particularly by focusing on the ongoing membership registration drive.

Gachagua advised her to hit the ground running and thoroughly prepare for the party primaries, which are scheduled to take place next March.

The defection marks a notable gain for the DCP as it continues to consolidate its support base in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the next electoral cycle.
