Bad News for Matiangi’s Jubilee as Top Ally Joins Gachagua Camp Hours After Political Clash, Details

The political landscape in Mt. Kenya has taken another dramatic turn as factional battles within the Jubilee Party continue to reshape local allegiances.

In a significant blow to former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s faction, veteran media personality Evelyn Waithira Muithirania has officially defected from Jubilee to join the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to an official statement released by Rigathi Gachagua on his official X account, the political shift unfolded at his Wamunyoro residence.

Gachagua has personally hosted and welcomed Waithira into the party fold, signaling a calculated move to consolidate regional support following recent political clashes between rival political groups.

Waithira, a prominent figure in regional broadcast media, has formally declared her intention to contest the Murang’a County Woman Representative seat on a DCP ticket.

Her abrupt departure from the Jubilee outfit highlights the growing friction and realignment within Mt. Kenya politics, where key influencers have continuously re-evaluated their political alignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

This sudden political migration has dealt a visible blow to the Jubilee faction aligned with Matiang’i, which has actively sought to retain influential community voices to stabilize its political base.

By capturing key operatives like Waithira, Gachagua’s camp has demonstrated sustained momentum in pulling prominent grassroots leaders away from rival party setups.

The timing of this defection coming just hours after intense political friction between top regional leaders led by Gachagua, Muturi, Matiangi over opposition matters.

As political alliances continue to shift rapidly across the country, this latest development has reinforced DCP’s growing presence in Murang’a while leaving the Matiang’i-led Jubilee machinery searching for immediate strategies to stem further internal departures.
