Mutahi Ngunyi Hints On Who Ruto Could Choose As His Running Mate

Political commentator Mutahi Ngunyi has suggested that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is safe on President William Ruto’s ticket, saying those eyeing his seat are deluded. He made the remarks in a post that also carried a warning for DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Ngunyi did not name Kindiki’s replacement or say outright that Ruto has settled on a running mate. His point was that anyone salivating over the deputy presidency should think again.

According to him, Kikuyus are sneaky people who fight using what he called the Tao of Paradox. He claimed that some of them are lying to Gachagua so that they can shield Kindiki.

He added that because they communicate through Bluetooth, a phrase he used to suggest quiet and unseen coordination, they will reveal their true position at the eleventh hour. By then, he said, it will be too late for Gachagua.

He offered no evidence of any such arrangement, and he did not name those he believes are misleading the DCP leader.

The post fits into a growing debate about the deputy presidency. Danstan Omari has predicted that Kalonzo Musyoka could become Ruto’s running mate, a claim neither man has confirmed.

ODM has also insisted that it must be given the Deputy President slot if it works with the president. Ngunyi’s remarks appear to dismiss all those expectations.

The comments come after Ngunyi dismissed Gachagua’s claim that Ruto would destroy Kikuyus if he wins another term, calling it stupidity. Gachagua and Kindiki have been rivals for influence in Mt. Kenya since the former’s impeachment in 2024.
