Ndiye Huyu: Photos Emerge of Nairobi Woman Accused of Killing Her Grandmother, Dorita Macharia
Pictures have surfaced showing Thandie Malaika Gitao, one of four relatives arrested in connection with the killing of her 86-year-old grandmother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia, at their family residence in Loresho, Nairobi.
Malaika was taken into police custody alongside three other family members as detectives continued probing the death of the elderly woman, whose body was discovered inside her home.According to court documents presented before the Kibera Law Courts, Malaika reportedly clashed with her grandmother on Friday night after Dorita allegedly found her in an inappropriate situation with her boyfriend inside the family residence.
The elderly woman was reportedly angered by what she had witnessed and instructed Malaika, her boyfriend, and other visitors to leave the premises.
However, the incident is said to have sparked a heated exchange between the two.
Investigating officer David Njoroge told the court that Malaika walked out of the house following the confrontation but later returned and remained with her grandmother for about one hour.Another disturbance was reportedly heard inside the residence before Dorita was found lying in a pool of blood.
The elderly woman had sustained several serious cuts, including a deep wound at the back of her neck.
Detectives are now working to establish what happened inside the house during the period leading to Dorita’s death and who was responsible for her injuries.
Malaika was arrested alongside her mother, actress Regina Wambui Gitao, popularly known as Regina Re, and Dorita’s sons Alton Jimmy Macharia and Immanuel Munyeki.
The four appeared before the Kibera Law Courts, where prosecutors requested permission to hold them for 15 days to allow investigators to collect more evidence.
The court, however, authorized their detention for 10 days.Detectives are expected to retrieve CCTV recordings, question witnesses, and obtain the suspects’ phone records as investigations continue.
The four will remain at Gigiri Police Station, with the matter scheduled for mention on November 12, 2026.
None of the suspects has been convicted, and investigations into Dorita’s death are still underway.
