Teacher Cillah Reveals How Much She Earns Per Month as She Asks If She Can Afford a CX5

Kenyan teacher and TikTok personality Teacher Cillah has sparked debate online after revealing her monthly salary and explaining why she believes educators need additional sources of income to survive financially.

In a video shared on her TikTok account on Tuesday, November 3, Cillah opened up about her earnings since joining the teaching profession, expressing frustration over what she considers slow salary growth.

The educator disclosed that she started earning KSh 28,000 when she entered the profession in 2022. Four years later, her monthly salary has increased to KSh 37,000.

Cillah used the figures to illustrate how little her earnings had grown over the years, arguing that the increment was not enough to significantly improve her financial situation.

She explained that the KSh 9,000 increase over four years translated to approximately KSh 2,250 annually.

“I know people talk about loans and everything, but to make it, a teacher must push themselves or think outside the box. Since I started working, I was earning KSh 28,000. Right now, I earn KSh 37,000,” she said.

Cillah questioned whether such an increment could help a teacher achieve major financial goals, noting that without inheritance, connections or additional income, making progress could be difficult.

She argued that relying entirely on government employment was not enough and encouraged teachers to explore opportunities outside the classroom to improve their livelihoods.

The content creator’s remarks have reignited conversations about teachers’ salaries, financial pressures and the cost of living in Kenya.

Her experience also highlights the challenges faced by young educators who are trying to balance professional responsibilities with personal financial ambitions.

While teaching remains an important profession, Cillah believes teachers must find creative ways of supplementing their salaries if they hope to achieve financial stability.
