Death At The Border — Dynamite Explosion Kills 2 Immigration Officers And 2 Civilians At Hamile

Blood has been spilled at Ghana’s border.

Four people are dead after a dynamite explosion at Hamile in the Upper West Region — including two Ghana Immigration Service officers and two civilians.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, immigration officers were chasing three suspected smugglers who were using a motor tricycle, popularly called “Aboboyaa,” to transport contraband goods across the Ghana-Burkina Faso border through an unapproved route.

According to preliminary reports, the tricycle was carrying suspected dynamite.

During the pursuit, gunfire reportedly struck the explosives — and the whole tricycle blew up.

The blast was massive. It killed on the spot.

Two immigration officers who were chasing the smugglers died instantly. Two suspected smugglers also died. Another officer is in critical condition, fighting for his life.

This is not just an accident. It shows how dangerous our borders have become. Smugglers are now carrying dynamite on unapproved routes, passing right under our noses.

How does dynamite — a deadly explosive — enter the country without detection? Who allowed it? Who is checking those bush paths at Hamile?

Following the explosion, tension is very high in Hamile. The government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the town and its environs. The Ministry of Interior, in a statement on November 3, begged chiefs, youth and residents to remain calm and use non-violent means.

But calm is hard when families have lost their loved ones.

Two officers died protecting Ghana’s border. Two others died in a desperate smuggling run.

If we don’t tighten security at our borders, the next explosion could kill even more innocent people.
