Mutahi Ngunyi Sends a Message to Politicians Scrambling to Occupy Kithure Kindiki’s Post Come 2027

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has sparked fresh debate over the future of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Through his official X handle, Mutahi Ngunyi said Kithure Kindiki chances of retaining his position are there.

He claims Mount Kenya Region is playing games and shall reveal it’s true colour months to General elections.

Ngunyi’s remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with different political camps positioning themselves for influence in the next government.

The analyst suggested that Kindiki could have an advantage in retaining his position because of his relationship with President William Ruto and his continued loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Since assuming office in October 2024 following Gachagua’s impeachment, Kindiki has maintained a close working relationship with the Head of State. He has also continued representing the government at various public engagements while defending its policies and development agenda.

This has strengthened perceptions that he remains a dependable partner for Ruto as the President considers his political strategy ahead of the next election.

Ngunyi also made claims about Gachagua’s political activities, suggesting that the former deputy president could be used by other individuals pursuing their own political interests.

The remarks are particularly significant given Gachagua’s growing involvement in opposition politics through his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

The former deputy president has been conducting political engagements across different regions while seeking to bring together leaders opposed to Ruto’s administration.

He has also held meetings with several opposition figures, including consultations aimed at building a united political front capable of challenging the incumbent in 2027.

His growing influence in the Mount Kenya region has made him an important figure in discussions surrounding the next presidential election.

However, Kindiki’s position within government gives him a different political advantage. He has direct access to the President and remains part of the administration’s leadership structure.

The contest over the Deputy President’s position could become even more complicated as Ruto continues engaging other political formations, including ODM, over possible cooperation ahead of 2027.

ODM’s reported interest in a 50-50 power-sharing arrangement has also raised questions about whether the current government structure could change to accommodate new political partners.

Ruto will have to consider regional interests, loyalty, coalition arrangements and electoral calculations before settling on his running mate.

Ngunyi’s remarks have consequently reignited debate over whether Kindiki will retain his position or whether political negotiations could produce an unexpected choice ahead of the 2027 General Election.
