Musician Bien to the Government, “Talanta Stadium is a Misplaced Priority…”

Renowned Kenyan musician Bien-AimĂ© Baraza has criticised the government over the huge amount of money reportedly spent on the construction of Talanta Stadium questioning whether the project reflects the country’s priorities.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, November 2, the Sauti Sol singer expressed concern about the cost of putting up the sports facility arguing that the resources could have been used to address other challenges facing Kenyan sports.

Bien-Aimé suggested that the government should have given greater attention to supporting local athletes and footballers, many of whom continue to face financial difficulties despite representing the country in various competitions.

According to the musician, some sportsmen and women struggle to receive the financial support they need to pursue their careers. He particularly pointed to the issue of footballers’ allowances questioning why substantial amounts could be committed to stadium construction while players still experience difficulties accessing their dues.

The singer also highlighted the case of Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie, whom he said missed an opportunity to compete in an international championship despite having a strong record of winning whenever he participated. Bien questioned why a talented athlete could fail to receive the necessary financial and institutional support to represent the country.

He further raised concerns about plans to bring European football giants Bayern Munich and Ajax to Kenya for the stadium’s official launch. He wondered why billions could be spent on major sporting events while local athletes continued struggling to access basic resources.

Despite his criticism, Bien acknowledged that the stadium would remain an important national asset even after President William Ruto leaves office. He noted that the facility could host football matches, concerts and other major events.
