Andre Ayew not needed for Black Stars – Ignatius Osei-Fosu

Ghanaian Sudan assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has opined that Andre Ayew is not needed in the Ghana national football team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Osei-Fosu believes the Black Stars should focus on building a younger squad capable of competing strongly at the global tournament rather than relying on experienced players who have been long-serving members of the national team.

Speaking on the issue, the Ghanaian tactician suggested that while Ayew has contributed immensely to the national team over the years, the time has come for a transition that allows emerging talents to take center stage.

“Andre Ayew is not needed in the Black Stars team,” he said as quoted by JoySports.

Ayew, who has captained Ghana and featured in multiple major international tournaments, remains one of the most decorated players in the country’s recent football history. However, debates about his place in future national team plans have intensified as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup.

The former Black Stars’ skipper scored his first goal of his new side NAC Breda over the weekend in a 3-3 draw against Feyenoord.
