Bafana Star Elias Mokwana Touches Down At Naturena For Crucial Chiefs Medical

Mokwana Set for Chiefs Medical as Amakhosi Close In on Major Signing

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, with the attacker expected to undergo a medical examination later this week as the Soweto giants move closer to securing his services.

According to FARPost, Chiefs have agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old, who is now poised to make a return to South African football. However, the proposed move remains subject to a successful medical before the deal can be finalised.

The potential signing represents a significant development for Amakhosi as they look to strengthen their attacking department following an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 campaign. With supporters eager to see the club challenge more consistently for major honours, Mokwana’s anticipated arrival could provide a timely boost.

Mokwana has been available as a free agent since September, when he mutually terminated his contract with Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis. His previous agreement with the club was due to run until June 2027, but both parties agreed to end their relationship earlier than expected.

The winger’s availability has created an opportunity for Chiefs to pursue a player they have admired for some time. Amakhosi were previously interested in his services before he moved to Tunisia in 2024, but they could now finally secure his signature.

Mokwana initially established himself in the Betway Premiership during his time with Sekhukhune United, where his pace, dribbling ability and attacking movement attracted attention from several clubs.

His experience abroad has also added to his footballing profile. After joining Espérance, he spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem, gaining further experience in a different competitive environment.

For Chiefs, the possible addition comes at an important moment. Head coach Fernando da Cruz has been looking for ways to improve his team’s attacking threat and introduce greater variety in the final third.

Mokwana could offer additional competition on the wings, giving the technical team another experienced option capable of stretching opposition defences and creating opportunities for teammates.

His potential arrival would also increase competition within the squad, something that could benefit the team as the season progresses.

Nevertheless, supporters will have to wait for confirmation from the club before celebrating the transfer. Although the reported agreement marks an important step towards completing the move, the medical examination remains a crucial requirement.

If everything proceeds as expected, Mokwana could soon begin a new chapter at Naturena, giving Chiefs another opportunity to strengthen their squad and improve their attacking performances.
