‘Take me to court’ – Dr UN blows hot over fake award allegations after 6 years
Kwame Owusu Fordjour, popularly known as Dr UN, has issued a strong warning to people who continue to describe his controversial award scheme as fake, insisting he will no longer tolerate the allegations.
Six years after the awards controversy attracted widespread public attention, Dr UN says he is tired of having his name linked to claims that he distributed fake awards.
In a strongly worded defense during a radio interview, he accused some journalists and members of the public of making allegations without conducting proper research and urged them to educate themselves before questioning the credibility of his initiative.
“Life is moving on and I am tired of hearing this fake award stuff. It’s rather unfair that journalists do not do their research,” he said.
He said he considered the continued accusations unfair and was prepared to take action against anyone who repeated them.
“I think this is the right time to blast all those who throw accusations at me. Six years now and I am still hearing that. Stop the foolishness and educate yourselves. I won’t take it lightly on anyone who says that to me again,” he added.
Dr Un challenged his critics to back their allegations with evidence or simply take him to court if they are so sure he distributed fake awards.
The controversy surrounding Dr UN dates back to 2020, when he came into the spotlight over Global Blueprint Excellence Award, an event that drew several prominent Ghanaian personalities.
The event went viral days later when the public uncovered that the awards had no actual ties to the United Nations or the Kofi Annan Foundation as he had falsely claimed.
He subsequently defended the initiative, insisting that the award scheme was created by his own organization and was not necessarily an official United Nations award requiring direct authorization from the organization’s headquarters in New York.
He also challenged the interpretation of the abbreviation “UN”, arguing that it could represent different things beyond the United Nations.
Dr UN maintained that the individuals honoured at the event deserved recognition and accused critics of attempting to discredit his work.
His latest comments suggest that the controversy, which first brought him widespread public attention, remains a source of frustration for him, even six years after the awards event.
