Black Stars Interim Coaches to Name Squad This Week for Crucial Somalia Double-Header

Ghana’s Black Stars interim technical team is expected to announce its squad later this week ahead of the country’s crucial double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The upcoming matches present an important opportunity for Ghana to revive its qualification campaign after suffering a disappointing start that has left the four-time African champions at the bottom of Group C without a single point.

According to a report by GhanaSoccernet on November 2, 2026, the interim technical handlers are expected to unveil their squad as preparations intensify for the two encounters against Somalia.

Kim Lars Björkegren has been appointed to lead the interim technical team, with former Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as assistant coaches. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has also been appointed as the team’s goalkeepers’ trainer.

The temporary arrangement followed the departure of Carlos Queiroz, whose time as Ghana’s head coach came to an end after the national team suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two qualifying matches.

Ghana started the campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Ivory Coast in Bouaké before suffering another setback at home, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium despite initially taking a two-goal lead.

Those results have placed the Black Stars under considerable pressure, making the upcoming Somalia fixtures extremely important to their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 tournament.

The first encounter against Somalia is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, while the return fixture will take place on Monday, November 16. Both matches are scheduled to be played in Ghana.

Attention will now turn to the squad selection, with supporters eager to discover which players will receive invitations under the new interim technical leadership.

Footballers who have been performing consistently for their respective clubs will be hoping to earn places in the squad, while established Black Stars players are also expected to come into consideration.

The interim coaches face the task of selecting a competitive team capable of securing maximum points from both encounters.

Ghana previously missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and supporters will be hoping the national team can avoid another disappointing qualifying campaign.

With the squad announcement expected this week, the Somalia double-header represents an important test for Björkegren and his technical team as they attempt to restore confidence and put Ghana’s AFCON 2027 qualification ambitions back on track.
